Cleveland Cavaliers Information

Voted as one of the most livable cities in the United States, along with Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Ohio offers many things to tourists and residents alike. Located on the southern shore of Lake Erie in the Western Reserve in northeastern Ohio on the Cuyahoga River, Cleveland was founded in 1796. Located at the mouth of a river and next to many canals, Cleveland became a major manufacturing center. In recent decades, there has been a decline of heavy manufacturing and Cleveland's businesses are now more often in the financial services, insurance, and healthcare sectors. Tourists visiting the city will enjoy attractions in the downtown area such as Jacobs Field, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Playhouse Square Center. Sports fans will enjoy buying Cleveland Cavalier tickets at the Quicken Loans Arena and seeing professional basketball at its best.

The Cavaliers franchise began in 1970 as an expansion team. Its first years in the NBA were less than desirable. However with the acquisition of Austin Carr, things started to look up for the Cavaliers. The 1975-1976 team consisting of Bingo Smith, Jim Chones, Dick Snyder, and Nate Thurmond, the Cavaliers had a 49-33 record, which was the best record in the Central Division. This was the first time the Cleveland Cavaliers ever appeared in the NBA Playoffs. Unfortunately, this was not to be the team’s year. The Cavs, as they are nicknamed, lost to the Boston Celtics in round two of the NBA Playoffs.

In 1986, the team had the ingredients for a championship winning team again. This team, featuring Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, Ron Harper, and Larry Nance, went to the playoffs eight times in nine years, highlighted by three 50-wins plus seasons.

The 1990s and into the 2000s did not fair well for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team’s stats were less then desirable. Finally in 2002-2003, the Cavs bad luck looked like it was at an end when they landed the number one draft pick in the NBA Lottery. The Cavs selected LeBron James, a high school prodigy that has been referred to as the next Michael Jordan. With the addition of this phenomenal player to the roster, management and fans alike hoped to see more victories for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After the 2003-2004 season, James won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. This was only a glimpse of what James would bring to the Cavaliers as he matured into a basketball superstar. In 2004-2005 season, James increased his points average, shooting percentage, assists average, and rebounds average. Only time will tell what this young budding star will bring to the sport.

Cleveland, Ohio is known for many things but one of the most exciting is the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA team. Only Cleveland Cavaliers tickets will give you access to the excitement of one of the NBA’s rising franchises.
